Do thermal-break windows lower your electricity bill in the UAE?
The short answer
Yes, especially in rooms that face west or south. Standard aluminium frames with single glass let a lot of heat in, so the AC runs harder. Thermal-break frames with double or Low-E glazing cut that heat gain substantially, which lowers cooling load and makes rooms more comfortable. The saving depends on how much glass you have and which way it faces.
Where the heat comes in
- Direct sun through the glass (solar gain)
- Heat conducted through a metal frame
- Hot air leaking through worn seals
A Low-E coating tackles the first, a thermal-break profile tackles the second, and good gaskets and correct installation tackle the third. Upgrading only one of the three gives only part of the benefit.

- West-facing bedrooms and living rooms first
- Large sliding doors and picture windows next
- Replace worn seals and rollers everywhere else
