Not if the glass is chosen correctly. A double-glazed unit with a solar control or Low-E coating lets in daylight while reflecting much of the heat. For large skylights we also add external shading or tinted interlayers.
Most leaks come from failed silicone, poor flashing or water pooling on a flat skylight. We reseal, re-flash or rebuild the curb with a proper fall so water drains away.
